Vision problems that are corrected with replacement lenses — also known as intraocular lenses, or IOLs — are often only corrected in one way. That is to say that many replacement lenses only offer clear focus at one distance, either near or far... but not both. Known as monofocal lenses, these types of replacement lenses often see patients needing to use glasses for activities like reading, or make other adjustments to their eyesight in order to be able to see with full clarity.

The Cystalens® accommodating lens, however, works closely with your eye’s muscles to adjust and focus on objects at various differences, making them a highly effective solution to both cataracts and presbyopia. Read on to learn more about Crystalens below, and reach out to the Beverly Hills Institute of Ophthalmology to set up an in-person appointment today!

Natural Eyesight that Adjusts to Your Visual Needs

Crystalens is an accommodating IOL that provides excellent near, intermediate, and distance vision by being modeled after the naturally-occurring human eye, and designed to replicate the flexing and changing of position of your eye’s natural lens. This lens works with the eye’s muscles to flex and accommodate, allowing you to focus on objects at all distances. Crystalens dynamically adjust to your visual needs, enabling you to see well while reading a book, working on the computer, or driving a car.

Crystalens is the first FDA-approved accommodating IOL. Few patients with Crystalens have experienced problems with glare, halos and night vision. Crystalens focuses only one image to the back of the eye, unlike multifocal lenses, which project multiple images, requiring your brain to “adjust” to the difference. Most patients continue to report excellent vision seven years after implantation with Crystalens. Learn more about Bausch + Lomb Crystalens on the product website.

Are Crystalens Replacement Lenses Right for Me?

One of the biggest benefits that comes along with the Crystalens procedure is the fact that patients rarely need to wear glasses for reading or other activities, once the lenses have been implanted. Their multifocal nature makes them a very popular choice.

Other key benefits include:

  • FDA approval for presbyopia
  • FDA approval for cataracts
  • Continuous range of vision
  • Utilizes natural focus ability of the eye
  • First and only FDA approved accommodating IOL
