The Hydrus Microstent is a revolutionary advance in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma, providing long-term relief from the excessive pressure and risk of eye damage associated with the condition. This unique curved stent can help restore vision, reduce the need for glaucoma eye drops, and prevent damage to your ocular nerve due to high intraocular pressure (IOP).

What is the Hydrus Microstent?

The Hydrus Stent is a curved device that provides consistent, open drainage to roughly 25% of your eye. Its unique curved design allows for access to multiple collector channels within your eye, without the need for difficult stent targeting.

It is implanted into Schlemm’s Canal, which is your eye’s natural drainage channel. Like any stent, the purpose of the Hydrus Stent is to ensure fluid can flow in areas where vessels may have become clogged or collapsed, and prevent a buildup within the vessel.

Glaucoma: The silent blinding disease

Glaucoma affects more than three million Americans and is the leading cause of blindness in the US. It is often referred to as the “silent blinding disease,” because the symptoms do not usually manifest until the condition has progressed, and irreversible damage to the delicate optical nerve has set in. The only way to catch it early is through routine eye exams where specialized testing can identify the condition, at which point early treatment can slow down or even prevent damage from occurring.

Who is a candidate for the Hydrus Microstent?

You might be an excellent candidate for the Hydrus Microstent if you:

  • Are undergoing cataract surgery
  • Suffer from mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma (one of the most common forms of glaucoma)

As with any medical device, you will need to see a licensed, professional ophthalmologist to determine the best solution for your unique condition.
